Chanel, or Karl Largerfeld, Cleaned Up Lily Allen

July 31, 2009

Karl can put Chanel on Lily Allen, but can we really put Lily Allen in Chanel, if you know what I mean? What I mean is, could this makeover stick on the girl who refuses to not sunbathe topless what-seems daily in her classless crusade nearing as bad as Amy Winehouse?

That is why Lily Allen as a model for Chanel surprises me. Yes, Lily is a huge Chanel fan, uh--so are witless teenagers. The difference is this recording artist has money, and those teens aren't truly carrying Chanel with their pink cambon totes.

So what I mean is anyone can be a fan, but that doesn't mean The Man will "fan" back. The singer makes a cute model of some sort---Allen is quite beautiful and a great writer with a great mind, but ... girl needs work.

Or - usually. One couldn't tell from these amazing photographs.

Here Allen advertises and sports Chanel's upcoming handbag collection, "Coco Cocoon" due this October 10th (2009).

Stay tuned for a gallery devoted to the bags next week!

& Now Blake Lively & the Jovi Bag - Gossip Girl Approved

July 31, 2009

So it appears the Jovi Cross-Body and its contemporary designer company, Treesje, have been declared Gossip Girl chic level by the stylists of the show. Here is Blake Lively sporting the bag we just blogged & raved about - and she's on set filming, no less.

One note: Turquoise and royal blue? NO!

Is this fab or fug? We say, change out of that tunic dress, or just trash it!

Going, Going, Is it Yet Gone?! FAB Cross-Body Bag

July 30, 2009

Treesje Jovi Cross-Body

$368.00 by Treesje at Endless.com

Treesje's Jovi is the bag equivalent of a favorite concert tee. The softly sculpted leather has a slightly worn-in look that demonstrates you've been rocking it forever, while the bold hardware shows that you've got more than enough retro-modern edge. The long cross-body strap makes for secure, hands-free wearing. (Leather)

*Update* Chrome is back in stock!

Swoon!

So fab! For a cross-body, so fabbing unfindably fab! I need this, but I need the cash. To add insult to misery, from that description it sounds like something I would put out myself in my own line. *Whine*

So fab and so selling out! Go ahead, steal this from me. But hurry.

New Quirky Limited Line from Forever 21: Twist presents Cirque 21 - What to Buy, How to Wear

July 30, 2009
(These are not necessarily the items going in my "bag" - no stealing, natch. ;-))
FOREVER 21 TWIST presents CIRQUE 21

FOREVER 21 TWIST presents CIRQUE 21

I'm confused. There are too many names n there. Maybe I'm just too tired.

But the story is: trendy discount fashion shop, Forever21, debuted a new collection yesterday. It's apparently limited, but perhaps that's a good thing, since the styles are pretty quirky. But actually, a big part of me loves a lot of this stuff.

Perhaps a response to crazy rock star style. With its multiple names, that's certainly fitting. (Is this 80s junctioned-a-posed-with petticoats "rock" style in now? I must be so naturally trendy as I've been feeling it for a while for sure, not to "Lady" GaGa extremes, but something much more like this Forever21 range, what kismet.) Like the ballet-inspired skirts and fingerless gloves my imaginary-rockstar-alter-ego would love for the stage. But since I'm in fashion, and want to dress for these jobs I want, how to fit the zanier pieces into my (or your) style?

To be fair, a lot of these items - on their own - are the ever present taste-of-fashionista always at Forever 21 - but some others, need some working into our wardrobe.

What we should do is pick and choose, when in real life. And not just by putting only 1 piece in 1 ensemble, but shop scrutinously and think things over before you press that final purchase button. So recessionista, too.

And it's the affordability of Forever 21! So for that and the exclusive, limited quantities - don't forget that! - I think I must go for it!

Not to be impulsive, but I think some of this is just a fun part of me that I could otherwise just skip and personally I don't want to miss out on broadening to all of my fantasy styles. Also since I might be impuslive often, and I am so tired, too much to use that discerning shopping eye, I will sleep on it.

Actually due to the recession, I should wait 'til my next paycheck tomorrow (and not just after nap) in order to fill my cart up right. I hope quantities last! (What? Some things are unavailable already. Actually, even yeterday. Eep!)

Or maybe I'm crazy and will wake up - saner with clearer eyes. Hm.*

*I drafted parts of this yesterday. And the stuff's even cuter today! Oh and I need a lot more from the rest of the Forever 21 range. Budget-planning time!

The Beautiful Cast of 'More to Love'

July 29, 2009

Bigger people don't necessarily offer "more to love" - everyone knows that's up to personality. But the cast of the new dating show More to Love have some more curves to look at and I think they're all beautiful and sexy. After all, they have so much natural cleavage! Can you argue? (Well grow up if you can.)

More to Love debuted last night and airs Tuesdays at 9pm EST on FOX.

*Addition: I just remembered the premiere showed some of these ladies tell their story of never having a boyfriend or even a date. And I'm shocked and saddened. I haven't noticed this in real life whether it's my own sized-self or anyone I know of a "size". Perhaps it's partially luck, but I have two tips: Confidence helps even though you don't need it to the level of "swagger" or denial, and also - try online dating! Don't lie, of course, but there's such a variety of people, and men can see your face and personality first - and only what you display. I found online dating to WORK, for me, period.

8. Your BF. Or maybe just when you two are alone, if he's not a sexist dolt.

57. Trends.

59. What every one else is doing.

Finally! A MAN's Wardrobe Malfunction / Slip! Woohoo!

July 28, 2009

A hot male butt slip!

U.S. Olympic Swimmer - male, Ricky Berens - flashed his tush - nay, his muscular sexy tush - during his moment in competition. Perhaps the hottest aspect of the story is that his swimsuit - a normally fuller-coverage suit than average - tore during stretching pre-match. In true "the show must go on" meets "my country needs me" fashion - and to the delight of many, or at least some (me) - he dove in anyway, flashing the crowd, cameras, Internet -> world his moon.

This is how we get girls into sports!

Sarah Palin insults Journalists: Claims 'Some' Lie

July 28, 2009

Here is a partial video and transcript of Sarah Palin's resignation speech. Read the full transcript at the IB Times for info on more than we've shown. Partially an ode to Alaska, republicans, the US military, and hunting ... and partially anti-Hollywood. Obviously anti-democrats, but also - in only one of the strange, awkward and shocking statements (the other main one was bashing anti-hunting as if caring for living things were unconstutional) - also Palin took a seriously salacious jab at professional journalists.

"And first, some straight talk for some, just some in the media because another right protected for all of us is freedom of the press, and you all have such important jobs reporting facts and informing the electorate, and exerting power to influence. You represent what could and should be a respected honest profession that could and should be the cornerstone of our democracy. Democracy depends on you, and that is why, that's why our troops are willing to die for you. So, how 'bout in honor of the American soldier, ya quite makin' things up."

What do you think of this? In a time soon after a late night talk show guest insulted and degraded all bloggers as equally plagiarizing, non-writers. I feel both a resentment toward their respect mixed with our lack, mixed with intrigue over even this Rep-tart's comments, but I do also feel shock and anger at her accusations. Where is Mrs. Palin's own fact-checking proof? How dare she cover up a self-defense with such an attack on others? She does know journalists are supposed to report impartially - no opinion or slant, let alone fabricate details. I fear journalism of old is slipping from the former - although I've never envied the position of keeping impartial - yet I'm not so convinced, aside from things like assumptions of a public figure's apparent haircut - a triviality - that reporters fail to be factual. I know traditional print is faltering, and our modern times are swinging away from certain old  "honors" but I hope the practice will bounce back in full effort - even if reading copies on trees becomes "uber" passé and they simply switch to another realm. Hey, I rather like the Internet, and I welcome all.

A Soft & Fluffier Side: Visual Poetry: Chanel

July 27, 2009

Mixing so many wonderful lovelies of the girl world. Softness, florals, pink, & a crafty look/feel with knits.

When I was writing about the sizing "scandal" I see over Lara Stone's sensationalized popularity - I couldn't help but calm down viewing this shot of Stone in Chanel. (In our W Magazine / Lara Stone gallery.)

There's also more on the softer side in another of Stone's differences. Forget a size six amongst a 00 world, Lara's natural blondness is showcasing other alternative beauty aspects. It's not that she has no eyebrows, but like a few other women, she has very pale hair, even there. Now these girls have their own model mirror, which is always beautiful.

We may laugh and poke at other famous people ditching their brows on purpose - but Lara is just natural - even in her near-skintone eyebrows. So girls who grew up anxious over this different feature of their own, there may be a separate calm for them amongst the buzz.
