The
Payless ShoeSource Tweed Pocket Flap, called "Becky", has enough style to stand on its own. But, no, it is completely based on the Prada Embellished Tweed Bag. Prada's original is adorable in brown, but has a bit of a rough edge for the schoolgirl feel we like such bags for. Payless's re-take has less detail, which allows it to not go overboard like its inspiration, yet its lack of fine craftsmanship is apparent in the shoulder strap's lack of shape (and it doesn't boast that charming orange ribbon). The original's shoulder strap is simply too long. The Prada is on sale at Smart Bargains, itself, for $800 (from $1,295). Becky goes for $15 at
Payless.com. You decide for yourselves.
Finally, a true IT Bag competitor from Coach (without too much price gouging). The Coach Daphne Large Satchel is sophisticated and sized (15" l) for serious business, and we mean it. Its lightweight leather comes in rich hues and even playful lilac (available 11 / 05). The details are subtle and refined, its most notable accent being a dogleash clip closing a slim flap over the top. We're even happy Coach has added its addition to the braided strap trend.
Unfortunately, at $698, it's beyond mosts' budgets. For those fabulistas who "have", the quality is worth the price, especially considering comparable designs.
I've made the call, now let's see how this bag is received, for there is this elusive math to the acclaim of such bags. The bag alone might not add up to the buzz of certain names, or even the ridiculousness of pricetags. It might settle somewhere in between usual popularity, no matter what it, alone, deserves.

Considering the seasons amidst and ahead, we ladies should be able to treat ourselves, but for a lighter bill. This
Anthropologie "Estelle" Bow Purse is elegantly refined and richly designed, but at a mere $78 for this medium 10.5" length handbag. Adding a little practicality is the full "espresso" leather back, yet keeping with the charm, there is also a bow on this side. Adorable, with vintage appeal, it's priced right for an "occasion" bag, especially for the
young lady.
A few days ago, I posted the Best Western Boots this season, on Kiss Me, Stace. And I actually was able to find the Best Western bag! among the horrid trendy attempts at style.
The only winner, by far, is the Isabella Fiore "Sheer Delight" Hobo. With rustic burnt-orange leather, a genuine braided handle, and a tassel zipper pull that looms large over the sizable 13" width, it's unique, alright. Then add the deep ruched leather that accentuates its hobo shape, yet adds sophistication. Lastly, take the grommet and studded scallop-look bands, to finalize its feminine appeal on would-be rugged details and even entire bag. Its a mouthful of a rich Fall treat!

Coat trend this winter: long, lean wool single-breasted pea coats in herringbone, grey, black and white, or brown blends. Houndstooth is quirky, yet trendy this year, and even subtle dotting is cute. Fur (faux, please) collars are big and just look fashionista, while nuzzling our necks in warmth.
This coral herringbone
Liz Claiborne Duffle Coat is divine with toggle buttons, which are beyond. The removable faux fur collar is best for changing temps & moods.
P.S. Hurry!
Liz Claiborne is having an outerwear sale that ends this Sunday, Oct 30th!
P.P.S Winter White is just right and proper for the next season, but we're still in Autumn. Labor Day Ruling will remain in full strength until Late November. If you can double-up on your outer-layer budget, then you can buy a coat for now and then.
Top Ten Sources has featured
Kiss Me, Stace on one of their lists; about
fashion trends, natch. There is a nice article with up-to-date post links for each selected blog, on an otherwise static (permanent) page. The site is made from a blog, itself, but converted to a multi-functional website.
A very helpful website. Top Ten Sources lists the latest RSS feeds on wide-ranging topics, and updates frequently with new content, itself! A great
source all of its own!
I introduce to you our first co-blogger here at
Pursed Lips!
Mallory Road is a handbag lover, great writer, and her fashion sense will be a delicious compliment to my own. She will also boost the amount of posts we have (for I have become a very busy lady) but give her time to get situated! She has prepared a fantastic first post for you. That's enough from me! (Oh, I just mean in this entry.)
I'm not opposed to western style, or cowboy, boots solely on principle. I have good reasons, mainly it's the chunky heel.
I've created this list of the Best Western styles this trend-ridden Fall. Topping it has to be the Lucchese
(at Shoes.com
), with its thin, tall heel. It still rings true to the inspired design, however not suited to actual cow wrangling. If the 3 1/2 inch heel or $270 price isn't practical for you, well there is really nothing comparable, but there are adequate options:
° The NaNa Evie
is femininely detailed. ° This Penny Loves Kenny Round Up
has leopard print! (And the heel is higher, which gives the slight appearance of less chunk.) ° This Urban Outfitters boot is ruched to a slouchy extreme, which is different and trendy. It also has an interesting heel. ° The Matisse Wyoming
is sophisticated and detailed. ° And, the Matisse Kansas
is pointy-toed.
Rule of thumb: Chunky feet = chunky you (it's completely NOT the opposite). A thin, long heel is the perfect continuation of your leg, creating the vision of a thin, long you!
Something chilly is afoot,
Notes on looking boot-iful:

1. Boots should be your staple when the weather gets chilly; choose something that will be comfortable enough to fit your lifestyle. 2. Boots should be versatile - to wear with pants or a skirt--dressed up or down. Choose a style (ie: high enough shaft) to always flatter different outfits and look good from toe to knee. 3. You should be willing to spend a good percentage more for a good boot. Boots, well, there's more of them! But they should also last---through all your wearings and the abuses of the weather---through different trend changes. Pick genuine leather or suede and a great style that is so you.
By the way, pointy toes aren't necessarily in for the season, but they always elongate the legs.

Question from a fellow fashionista in need,
Ella, you know all the rules. I'm wondering what you would say about brand tags visible on scarves. I feel embarrassed by that tag hanging in plain sight on my winter scarf, but I'm not sure if it can be removed without ripping the wool.
Cold With a Long Winter Ahead
Yes, it is unsightly, and should be taken care of, Cold. I've tested this myself, though, and your scarf tag is probably hanging on by mere threads. It should be easy to hold taught and snip with scissors. Use caution!
