Shoo Shopping? Shoe-In Club by Kim Kardashian (UPDATE)

July 15, 2009

*Update* 7/15/09 (Originally 3/23/09) I've seen a lot of Google searches* and website questions about criticism or complaints about ShoeDazzle - and so far I read some say the shoes are not attractive to members, and may be cheap either for the cost or in keeping with the $39 per pair price.

Kim Kardashian, with a team of "fellow" stylists have started the company ShoeDazzle.com. It's literally, literally a pair of shoes of the month club, and for only $39 monthly for fabulous shoes, with any month skippable.

Weird? Yeah. Kim Kardashian, stylist, CEO - weird? Yeah. The concept is intriguing though, and it just might work well. I'd like to hear reviews (or get a little free membership to review!).

The process starts with a free and fun quiz, but one must register to see results. The stylists see them too and hand-pick (for now at least) personalized selections. My worry would definitely be comfort and a desire for flats and wedges amongst a sea of killer heels. Heck, I'm starting to alter/make my own shoes - starting with a wedding I'm attending. But I digress.

Another worry we'd all have is what brands, what designers?! The only one quoted is Michael Antonio.

Hmmm. I'm just going to have to review him, that's all. ;-)

The bottom line is that any shoe that will fly with fashionistas will cost more than the $39 monthly fee. And in this recession that actually sounds affordable for those who have any spending money. One way it could help budgeting is that the ladies are not shopping, browsing, on Zappos.com... Not tempted to spend even more. It's almost saving!

Still for now this is in the questionable category, however at least the service seems totally risk-free with returns, cancellations, skipping months, etc.

Unless I were really brave, I'd wait and see.

*I wanted to post an update to this, because it's become a popular page. I want to promote it because it's moved and is causing a 404 from direct links, so I didn't want to without more info.

Shoes like Feet, So like Fug

April 28, 2009

The Five Fingers shoe by Vibram fits a foot like a glove ... but of course with a ground-intended sole. These things are worse than those 1990's toe socks. Check out that even the soles are contoured to a foot. The footwear is likely comfortable, but how could anyone feel confident in public in a pair?

Somehow this unique "fashion" even won an award back in 2007, but they're beyond the women of the world. In a beneath us kind of way. ;-)

Surprising Shoe Fact-A flat-flat is unhealthy

March 24, 2009

The surprising fact about shoes and foot health (and posture) is that the flattest of flat shoes is actually unhealthy, relatively, for the feet. Best is a quarter to a half an inch of a lift on the back of a flat, kind of like a kitten wedge, we suppose. Here are some shopping picks that fit the bill...

The Best Reviews of Fashion Week (so far)

February 20, 2009

*Le Sigh*. No, I do not love scouring over every show all week long, nor do I love writing about a single topic or in a single way. And I also do not love reading the same old posts about the runway styles. So in part to brush up on my knowledge of what's going on and in part to celebrate the better and best of other blogs' coverage, here is a link roundup of fashion bloggers' reviews and other noteworthy pieces on New York Fashion Week Fall 2009...

  • Shoo Shoes! (shoe un-comfort, un-fab) --- So Brian Reyes collaborated with Manolo Blahnik for their collection, however it must have been DesignFail because the assumedly-usually professional models faultered and fell in their Blahniks (so un-Bradshaw!) and ended up - all of them - walking the final rounds in bare feet. -- Fashionologie wrote a great living-the-moment piece complete with a gallery of photos. (Warning: FEET!)
  • ShoeFab (and leg fabulous!) -- Louboutins and floral sheer tights at the 3.1 Philip Lim show --- a gallery from Le City Kitty. (Warning: music!)
  • It was News - Celebrity NOTs --- Marc Jacobs had to cut corners (and celebrities, and plus-ones) from his show, except for Anna Wintour's invitation (plus one), of course. --- from the newsdesk at Fashionologie.
  • The Huffington Post went on the hunt after retailers and manufacturers abusing the sale of fur.
  • Fug Fashion; actually, for the Birds (not women) --- Trend de la Crème posted a genius photo comparison list of catwalk couture with ... turkeys. We take it this blogger doesn't want to gobble up the tastes.
  • More Fug - a slideshow of 80s inspired apparel --- on Yahoo!'s Shine.
  • Beauty --- Reddest lips and tightest ponytails at J. Mendel on Style List /// videos and photos of backstage beauty (at Marchesa) on Eye 4 Style.
  • Not Just Fug---Unwearable --- this year's outrageous couture, a slideshow and article from Guanabee.
  • And on to the trends... the best covered: the not-covered looks of nude, natural and neutral: all the nude & glossed, barely made-up lips in great photo layout form on Beauty N Love. /// Nuetrals made natural by nature; mixing mutes with skins on Shoes Junky.
  • A Whole Lotta Trends in one post: Fashion Sensei has cut-outs, cobalt blue, and metallics are also on the Huffington Post.
  • Recession Trend Forecasting: All the Fashion Week ways to tell if our wallets are pooped by WalletPop. /// also Tough Clothes for Tough Times.
  • Last but not least, a little fun: Marc Jacobs Mad Libs from Whorange.

Of course there are more collections to see and articles to read, but I really should work on my own recaps, myself!
