Barbie is Inappropriate for Kids, Again

June 02, 2009

Barbie has been designed a suite in her honor at a major luxury hotel. In Vegas. She now has a pink-decked suite at The Palms.

Her blog entry announcing this basically told the kids that their favorite doll has been partying it up in the city (shopping for miniatures?, drinking thimbles of cosmos?), even hinted at gambling. Fun for the whole family, eh?

"Aaah…the thrills of Las Vegas night life – after a long day I’m ready to bet on pink!"

The doll for little girls and collectors invites (through the blog) her fans to have ... bachelorette parties??? in her suite. OK, sure, for all those child brides, huh?

What's also silly is the suite has a huge closet. Who can lug that big of a wardrobe on vacation, let alone afford it? I mean, is this suite especially for those with private jets, because one can't really pack that much on a commercial airline.

Kanye West is an "idiot" says Pink (and us!)

June 01, 2009

Talking to FHM about an experience at this past January's fashion show by vegan designer, Stella McCartney, Pink was fired up. The singer said she was PO'd at fellow musician, Kanye West.

"I was at STELLA McCARTNEY's Paris fashion show with the vice president of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, PAUL McCARTNEY and Kanye West.

"The entire time Kanye is going,
'They need more fur in this show'. He just wouldn't shut up about how he loved fur. I mean, he's saying this to me, the PETA guy and Paul McCartney!

I was just so grossed out by him. I'm like,
'You're an idiot!'

"There are so many people who I think are a waste of skin and he's up there. I should wear him. Go on, donate yourself Kanye. People can wear your fur."

So Kanye was oblivious not only to the fact that Stella is an avowed vegan designer, who never uses/designs fur or even leather, but that he was speaking to activist Pink, Paul McCartney (who must have bonded over love for animals when he was with his ex-wife) and even the vice president of PETA. I'm not pro PETA due to their extreme and publicity-stunt antics, but celebrities should know not to cross the organization or prepare for some backlash.

But is a soft human skin bag, coat, or other accessory too disgusting for Pink's verbal attack to resonate? Oh, my, I can just see the slant PETA will take in an anti-Kanye campaign. Would such a thing be good or bad?

Barbie 50th Anniversary Retrospective Fashion Show

February 15, 2009

View the video below my review:

I had my first coupled Valentine's Day yesterday, so I didn't post after early morning, and missed out on the original "telecast" of the Barbie fashion show, but I just saw it and it was amazing. Actually a retrospective of Barbie-inspired fashion from her 50 years since debut, but the styles were so on par with creative designs I'm really feeling today.

It's early but I'm eagerly wishing to say this is the best show of the events! This is not just the typical or crazy clothes, not just, it's a true entertainment piece that also fills any girly-girl-woman with wonder, and for me, inspires.

View part 1 of the video below, see the consecutive parts on YouTube here.

Trend Spotting: Pink & Ruffles

February 13, 2009
Rosey Ruffles

Ruffles are still in, eh? And perhaps as Valentine's nears, pink comes back in as the major girl color again? (It's been red red red.) At least I'm seeing this a lot, and I'm truly loving it!

SkinIt: Your Laptop (any brand, or any gadget)

June 07, 2008

In my last article I tried to convince all chic geeks NOT to lust after a computer merely for its pink sheen, when instead we can have a perfectly tailored skin.

Whether you have your laptop or are about to buy one, you can go to SkinIt.com, pick your 'puter and choose from numerous designs, photoshop-up a large image or opt for a mixture of any pictures, a solid color, etc. - many options here for the uber-geek-artiste to the laywoman or even the lazy woman.

And you can skin more than just computers (although only laptop computers are an option); you can doll up anything from printers to headsets (wow). Check this page for a list and portal to all supported devices.

Extra benefits of going in just skin: protection from scratches and dirt AND you can collect new ones every so often (or a bunch at once) and switch them out with your mood, changing obsessions or when a trend is out. They're not super cheap, but to make your comp chic, at around $30 each, it's not comparatively expensive to dress your favorite toy/best partner than it is to dress your own ... skin.

Pink XPS Makes you Blue About Your Plain Laptop?

June 06, 2008

When I bought my laptop, Dell was (unbeknownst-to-me) about to debut laptop skins---with custom "you-designing" available (see next post), and I was bummed I missed out on THAT. (I did get my skin later though.)

And just recently Dell put out the XPS laptop available with a "flamingo" pink actual body, shiny metal and all - also (Product) Red, blue and black.

Now after checking out the "Build Your Dell" features, I don't feel so bad at all.

I mean: Should I/you get a computer/laptop just because it's pink??!!!

Pros

  • Pink available

  • Good, powerful options

  • Matching bags, sleeves and accessories available.

Cons

  • It's only the XPS machine, whereas I bought the special "media" (good for recording sound, video display and high storage, etc.) Inspiron. My machine suits me best! (And that is the most important thing, we must remember.)

  • It's not available in anything smaller than 15.4" size. No matter the color, that won't do for some!

  • Windows XP is no longer offered, only Vista can be purchased with the PC (at least online).

  • They're really hawking the stupid product offers, it's quite annoying and could be really confusing to the lesser knowledged.

  • If you get a stick-on skin, it will fit the machine A-OK-Enough and you can put your own artwork on it! Plus this adds protection. What good is a shiny pink gadget with scratches? Huh? Huhhh???!

Well, I'm satisfied. Stay tuned for more on those skins (oh it's probably spelled "skinz" if I know the world we live in now well enough!)... But if you're still intrigued by this machine or need a new laptop anway, check out the Dell XPS online now - and if you'd prefer a different notebook, remember the skins/z!

Dooney & Bourke breeds new Zebra Totes in Funky Colors

February 01, 2008

I love my bold, large, yet apparently understated - compared to these - giraffe print Medium Sac. Now Dooney & Bourke has new Zebra-printed handbags in several over-the-top color schemes, for their new twisted-strap Sacs. With their slight metallic sheens, I do love the white/grey, as a large day to night, "I'm-fabu" bag. But if you still need a little more tameness in your already sassy animal prints, then the Twisted-Strap Sacs in the zebra line are still available in black/white!

Dooney & Bourke grey twisted-strap Medium Sac

The Medium Sac is sized 15.5" w x 12" h x 5" d; the Large Sac: 19" w x 14" h x 5" d. Despite equality in size and a snazzier design, the new sacs are actually lower in price from the basics, from $325 and $395 to $240 for medium and $260 for large.

And all that's "less" in this version is a thinner strap, as far as I can tell. So really, it's a win overall. A serious no-brainer. There's no sin in this temptation, why not make the kill and buy one of these wild steals.

Help Me Choose an Eco Bag (from Kaboodle)

November 13, 2007

Kaboodle.com is a social shopping wish list site I'm sure many of you have heard of. One cool feature is the ability to make and vote on "Help me choose" polls. You can also publish them to you blogs, so here we go!

It's a cool, fun and helpful feature to get more exposure if you really need the help. Don't have a blog, but have a cool handbag poll - send it to me through my contact form (which has a new script, finally)!

*Update: I just realized that the code doesn't work AT ALL in WordPress, so I've added a link to the image leading to my polls page on Kaboodle. Sorry!*

Coach Fragrance Line & LE Straw Basket with Goodies

April 03, 2007

Coach Fragrance Print Scarf

Coach has actually made an accessory line printed with a red/pink fragrance theme in celebration of their new perfume. They've also made up a limited edition compilation of the LE Jasmine XL Straw "Basket" bag filled with pieces from the line, plus a pair of shades and the exclusive to the "gift basket", bronzer compact (which I think is a pretty awesome little beauty case).

Coach LE Jasmine Gift Bag

The main feature of this LE gift set is the Jasmine XL Straw Basket ($998 separately, limited on its own as well) which features a rounded body of straw, orange leather and snake skin trim, brass hardware with ringed full-height straps and fragrance-print lining with 5 interior pockets. It's sized 24" x 13.5" x 10.5"!
The official list of items included is: Fragrance-print crusher hat, beach towel, Framed coin purse, Patti sunglasses, and an exclusive Bronzer Set in the Fragrance Print Case.

Coach Fragrance Print Brush Case ClutchThe cost of the package is $1600 (eek) too steep for me even though I'd love to own this, but instead I can pick up a little piece of the "fragrance" line separately. My choice is the unique "Brush case" which can be used as a beauty case or even a clutch! Love it. If you can't get the package, which is in limited quantities, perhaps look on eBay for that exclusive bronzer, as I will. (No low price guarantee, though.)

If you have the cash/budgeting and love for Coach or just plain cute accessories, go for it, it's sold online at coach.com or in select boutiques, but you can always have it shipped free by calling your favorite store location/favorite SA.
