Fab or Fug? Tote with REAL Stiletto, Faux Shoe

June 22, 2010

If The Shoe Fits tote bag

from Collectibles Today. $69.95

A possibly cute shoe design, with a real stiletto style heel but a cloth print on the tote - clever. However the bag is akin to a grocery-style bland tote, even with more shoe printing.

What do you think? Novelty, fug, nice? Leave your vote or comment below!

Twilight Apparel a la Nordstrom More Teenybopper than Vampire

August 03, 2009

@ First Look: The Twilight inspired line coming to Nordstrom would fit in more at Delia's than with the store's mid-range/upscale image. Sadly, it's also too alone suited to the megahit's wild youthful fan base than anything more in tune with vampires or older admirers of the film and genre.

"Team" Tees Preview:

Right before and after the original film debuted, "Twilight" was also what a vamp-y trend-merely-film-inspired was called amongst the do-it-themselves fashion creators. Etsy.com was filled with Victorian-era inspired beauties like frilly wrist cuffs and luxe oldschool gothic jewelry (Read: no Hot Topic).

Example products from Fall 2008 by Little Sparrow Nest and Talula. Click images to view their respective shops.

But just like that keyword was thrown about, Sparkly Vampire mania has hit, and punched, and bitten  - extremely hard. Now the "underground" beings inspire further "Tra L.A. L.A. Land" carefree attitudes with this oh-so Junior's style.

The "glitter" from Hollywood glitz is spreading. Aside from the Nordstrom Junior's Department styles, the most recent evolution of this living trend has surfaced online from former-or-semistill-undergrounds, the indies...

Another sad(ish) truth of today is that the movie-fangirlishness has brought graphic tees to Etsy as well, not that that's entirely bad and the items & slogans are not bad - or, beauty being in the eye of the beholder, at least they're not of popular-teenshop aesthetic. Fortunately, a lot of the designs are pretty dark - a stark contrast to this mass market promotion-in-sheep's-cotton-clothing at the department store.

At least we can help show fans that they have choices.

If your fashion style has a sweet tooth for notebook-doodles over Edward Cullen, by all means, shop mainstream.

If you crave something just a little more juicy or bittersweet, then do check out Etsy or other indie venues/shops. You can probably even do some hunting and find some "vamp" items, still.

& Now the Liquid Swimsuit, Fitting! in 2 Ways

June 12, 2009

Something Black Gloss One-piece

$122.00 by Something at Revolve Clothing

From liquid leggings to liquid other things; and here's a "liquid" swim suit. That leather-look is really man-made fabrics, so yes, it can be worn in that other liquid, water. More like a nylon, it also won't get so scorching in the sun. Yes thank goodness there are no swimsuits of leather, right?

Um, well in our crazy world, I must ask & hope I'm right.

Anyway, such a wacked out piece of apparel as a leather bathing suit wouldn't go for the relatively reasonable price of $122 ... and no one would buy it for swimming anyway, so it would be a manufacturing budget drain.

Looking at this material, I'm still thinking the worst thing that could be made "into" liquid would be some baggy parka. Garbage bag anyone? Well, no one likes parkas anyway, so I guess we're safe. Even though it could be made out of similar material to this one-piece for water-resistance. Just don't do it!

A human wearing a garbage bag, how silly. ... Oh yeah I forgot. It was done in the 90s. Never again, I command! If one must liquid, one must fit it. (Good rule?)

What a world, what a world. Our sense is melting like the polar ice caps.

Errm, happy Summer?

Neil Patrick Harris Wore Liquid Suit to Host Tony's

June 08, 2009

All you fashionistas know about liquid leggings, and possibly liquid other things. But now the "trend" is branching out to men, or at least gay men ... or at least gay men at the Tony Awards, which is of course different from real straight men life, but anyway.

Neil Patrick Harris hosted the Tony Awards in a black "liquid" suit. (No wardrobe change, either, hmm. Budget!)

So what do you think of this look?

How Does a Summer Trend LOOK ON:
Stars & Zips or Never

April 30, 2009
Bulky, curves in wrong places, and nearly impossible to layer...
A trend overdone can seem fabulous on the rack or a rack-shaped model, and certainly evokes a buzz-like high of near- or all-couture top fashion ...

But ...

Does it always look so fantastic on women?

Even the oft-thought of being not "real" women, celebrities, may not look their best in the hottest trends when taken to high fashion extremes, unfortunately.

Even though we love this 3.1 Phillip Lim dress, we all may have to face the possible reality that it's more art than wear.

(Although we now wonder about its skirt version!)

Shoe Look Out: Perforated Boots "Cool" for Spring

April 10, 2009
Life & Style Magazine
Perforated boots are great for Spring because they let your feet air out a little more. Or do they, and are they? It's a smart idea, but don't wear these in the rain!

Are they cute?

Fab or Fug? - Mulberry's 'Shimmy' Bag

March 06, 2009

Mulberry Women's Shimmy Tumbled Sheep Tote

$1,195.00 by Mulberry at Bloomingdale's

"Mulberry shimmy tumbled sheep tote. Tumbled sheep leather. Silver hardware with shiny silver dog tag. Detachable sailing clips for extra strap. Interior zip pocket with a cell phone pocket. Fabric lining. Can be used as a tote or as a crossover.

  • 17.3"W x 11.4"H x 4.7"D
  • 8.7" drop from shoulderDetachable strap: 18.9" drop from shoulder"

I love the ID-style tag (although it appears blank) in the center of this new bag, but is the rest a little, beige? Other styles are also on the plain-shape side.

Fifties Flatter Meets Mermaid Fin when Hayden Meets Harnett

February 16, 2009

This is possibly the most unique swimsuit I've seen. The Leda Ruffle Bikini by Hayden-Harnett. So retro, inspired by the fifties with its conservative coverage including a wait high waist (enter the flatter for the tummy-flattener) ... and top it off with the hot-now trend of ruffles. I rather like them on the side this way, sort of accentuating a woman's curves where they should be.

And so what if it looks a bit "fishy"? It's for the water, after all! Nevertheless, one other blogger drastically disagrees with my taste for this 2-piece.

I may not think it's the best suit ever designed, but I love it, and sure would wear it. Hey guys, how about red, or what --- dare I suggest green?

There's really only one other thing I'd change: remove the buttons and add a little frill in that center décolatage spot. Just right!

Well, that's my opinion, to each his or her own---what about you?

Monique Lhuillier continues Twilight trends for Fall

February 14, 2009

Monique Lhuillier's collection for Fall 2009 is stunning & gorgeous, and many things I'd create myself right now if I had the time, money, etc. etc. (I mean they do have factories for these companies after, but I digress..) However, this collection is set to spring up next Autumn. Is Twilight, lace, goth and Victorian still going to be around? Is the house behind or just loving it so? I'm not one to force a trend over for all above artistic vision. What do you think?
