Stylish with Substance

A woman should be two things; classy & fabulous - Mlle Gabrielle Chanel

Which of these Models is Not like the Others?

March 05, 2009

A sampling of this season's contestants on America's Next Top Model.

It's a trick question. Sorry. I really, truly am. This Top Model season/cycle's (or perhaps in general, and most in the modeling world) "plus" sized model is on the thin side of average, looks better than most American women---almost looks as skinny as the other America's Next top Model contestants and in some shots precisely as thin. To top it all off, it's a very bad thing for America's youth and even adult women in our society.

I know I would have to go on the supermodel's diet to look as fit as this model. (Granted, her height does "help" her, as with most plus-sized models.)

So now which one should be singled out as "heavier" or "bigger"?

It's Kortnie, pictured again. She's not photoshopped; she appears this "misses"-sized throughout the whole tv program, too ... and she didn't seem tremendously taller than the other girls either.

I think part of the visual problem is that plus sized clothes are really made for very tall, big, and ... well, "fatter" women -- and not just fatter. There really is no product, as I've said before, for plus-petites. We've had a commenter even argue against the concept of "plus petite".

The jacket sleeves are long, etc. So while I am a little overweight (and Kortnie is most certainly not) I cannot fit into the all-around up-sized plus sizes, while Kortnie ... is somehow a spokesperson. (???)

One sad thing for sure about this matter is that the show, its producers, the CW or all of them ... are promoting her as a plus-sized "real woman" we *other real women* (who love cheesecake, see video below) can relate to.

Sure, I can relate to her in another 30 pounds!
