Gisele Bündchen Admits she Doesn't Design Her Line

April 12, 2010

On Thursday, Gisele Bündchen introduced her eighth flip-flop collection with Brazil's largest footwear company, Grendene, titled "Ipanema".

She admitted that she doesn't really design the line at all, saying

“I am very inspired by nature and like to use that for my ideas, but actually designing them — no way. I would be a disaster.” WWD

You probably know what we think here at our lippy HQ, but

What have you got to say?

I have more questions than will fit in a poll, well namely 2:

  • Do you think Gisele doesn't even deserve this line or do you think she is noble for her honesty?
  • Do you think this happens with most celebrity lines, but it's just unspoken?

Unfortunately, if celebs who admit this are TOO ostracized, I think less would admit it, instead of fewer celebrity lines being made. It's sad.

There should be government guidelines on this, like in the labels, or something. If a celebrity wants a line but can't design, it should be called something else ... I can't think of how it could be done specifically, but I think in/to the press it should be made known as something between the lines of design and promoted/endorsed, just a separate categorization.

Or maybe our outrage is crazy to most?

Cheri, you're probably right. People stink.

Ordon, I like it. Of course it would need to be well-planned, but would probably never happen.

I hope we're not crazy to fashionistas!!

How can it be called her designer line if she's not the designer? Is it just a way for the actual designer or designers to sell their wares because they weren't able to without putting a recognizable name to it? And is Gisele just doing it for some more moolah? Also, is this false advertising?

Uhoh, on seeing the black pair again (you can click to view larger) I really love that style!

I shouldn't buy these, though, right?

Nancy:
- Because society says so? No, because she has money. And also fame.
- Maybe in a way, small designers getting their start the non-Esty way. This should become a thing of the past, in this specific sense.
- No, and this is VERY important, she's doing it to stay famous and remain relevant.
- Not sure. Actually, it's not so bad due to the actual honesty.

Cheri, I KNOW! I like those! Yet I don't want to support this, let alone pretty much any celeb fashion. I could do a post, though, saying "whoever DID design this is creative!"

Le sigh!
